In 2012, it was announced that the drive in would close once again. The Grecos were leasing the land, but were never able to secure sufficient funding to purchase it. The owner is believed to have other plans for the land and chose not to renew the lease. To date, none of these plans appear to have materialized.</p> <p class="text-align-justify">In its final year, Skylark was open every Friday, Saturday and Sunday night at 9:00 PM, with a double-feature at dusk.</p> <hr /><p class="text-align-justify"><strong>Personal Commentary: </strong></p> <p class="text-align-justify">We were on the way home from a camping trip on the Labour Day Weekend and I remembered this place. I have been meaning to stop in for quite some time and just never seemed to have the time. This time, no excuses. I had my camera, I had my drone. Time to get this place captured before someone bulldozes it.</p> <p class="text-align-justify">It was really warm, and I have now realized that the hard case for my drone, while excellent protection, is a bit heavy to carry any distance.</p> <p class="text-align-justify">In any event, we, including our newest intrepid exploring partner, Max the Exploring Husky, set out to see what was left.</p> <p class="text-align-justify">I was surprised at how much of it was still present, and at the same time dismayed by how badly destroyed it was already. It was difficult to determine what it was, exactly, but clearly it was a tourist attraction of some kind.</p> <p class="text-align-justify">We did find a sign that appeared to belong to the Wasaga Beach Paint-ball group, which does border on the far side of this property.</p> <p class="text-align-justify">On May 2, we had an opportunity to speak with some people who live in Wasaga Beach, and are familiar with its history.</p> <p class="text-align-justify">As it turns out, this location was once Dinosaur Valley. Tourists were able to walk the paths, examine the statues, and hear about each species from speakers at each site. I wasn't sure at first exactly what condition it might be in, but I doubled back and parked next to the water tower. Then I circled around the tower and came onto the property from behind.</p> <p class="text-align-justify">What I found appeared, at first to be a motel. As it turns out, after speaking with some of the locals, this was in fact an outdoor roller rink. Today, however, it appears it's a favourite place for the local kids to party, drink, read porn, and worst of all, skateboard.</p> <p class="text-align-justify">Some of the graffiti on the back wall was interesting. When I arrived at the small road entering to the track, I was greeted by a surprising amount of water flooding the way.</p> <p class="text-align-justify">This, of course, is the reason for inventing 4-wheel drive. The reporter came to this place, decided it was an eyesore and hangout for drug abusers, and other undesirables, and called for its destruction.</p> <p class="text-align-justify">Shortly afterwards, the city was able to locate the current owner and pressure them to demolish the structure.</p> <p class="text-align-justify">Someone was, indeed, living there, and the place smelled utterly rancid.</p> <p class="text-align-justify">The race track is now part of a walking trail that runs across part of the city. Tires can still be seen half-buried in the ground marking the periphery of the track.
